Balletto Nazionale d’Ucraina “Virsky”



Quella del Balletto nazionale d’Ucraina è stata definita “la danza folklorica più popolare e dai ritmi mozzafiato”. Il “Virsky” nasce nel giugno del 1937 su iniziativa dei due coreografi Paul Virski e Nicolaj Bolotov, il primo anche abile manager che organizzerà e dirigerà l’ensemble dal 1955 al 1975, facendolo conoscere al mondo intero. Basandosi sulle tradizioni folcloriche, Paul Virski – plurilaureato artista del Popolo dell’Urss – ha firmato negli anni parecchie coreografie di rilievo tra cui I marinai, Zaporogues e la famosa danza cosacca burlesca Povzounets. A partire dal 1980 la guida dell’ensemble è passata all’artista del Popolo dell’Ucraina Miroslav Vantoukh, che ha creato nuove coreografie tra cui Carpazi, Danza dei tamburi e Amicizie. Diversi compositori ucraini arrangiano le musiche tradizionali e ne creano di originali, eseguite dall’orchestra sinfonica che per molti anni è stata sotto la guida di Ivachtchenko, compositore e allievo di Virski, diretta dal 1984 da Stanislav Savtchouk e Vitaly Redko.
Nel corso degli anni il Balletto nazionale d’Ucraina ha compiuto tournée in Cina, Polonia, Bulgaria, Ungheria, Repubblica Ceca, Slovacchia, Mongolia, India, Cuba, Austria, Gran Bretagna, Canada, Francia, Belgio, Stati Uniti, Messico, Argentina, Brasile, Grecia, Venezuela, Equador, Colombia, Perù, Cile, Portogallo, Spagna e Italia.Per il New York Times: «Le esecuzioni brillanti dell’ensemble non possono non essere sottolineate. E se volete conoscere l’essenza stessa della danza, dovete vedere l’eleganza e la rapidità della tecnica mostrata dai danzatori. E inoltre, la precisione dei giri, delle rotazioni, dei salti, delle piroette degli uomini». L’Herald Tribune descrive così il Virsky: «Un ensemble di donne notevolmente belle e di uomini di un’energia formidabile, tutti, uomini e donne, vestiti di bei costumi freschi come la primavera». Da Le Figaro, col titolo Un sogno smagliante: «Il pubblico, in piedi, ha lanciato ovazioni ai centocinquanta artisti della compagnia dopo avere salutato ogni balletto con applausi entusiastici. […] Tutto il pubblico, anche quello che non ama il folclore, è restato incantato da questo spettacolo tonico e intelligente perché il Balletto dell’Ucraina è molto più di un sogno smagliante».

The dancing of the National Ballet of Ukraine has been pronounced “the most popular and breathtaking folk dancing”. The “Virsky” company was established in June 1937 under the initiative of the two choreographers  Paul Virski and Nicolaj Bolotov, also the first able manager who would later organize and direct the ensemble from 1955 to 1975, accomplishing worldwide acknowledgment. Founded on traditional folklore, the significant choreographies created over the years by Paul Virski – the multi-graduate People of the USSR’s artist – include The Sailors, Zaporogues and the famous Cossack burlesque dance Povzounefs. Since 1980 the leadership of the ensemble has passed to the People of Ukraine’s artist Miroslav Vantoukh, who has created new choreographies such as Carpathians, Dance of Drums and Friendships. Several Ukraine composers arrange traditional music and create original themes, performed by the symphony orchestra directed for many years by Ivachtchenko, composer and pupil of Virski, and conducted since 1984 by Stanislav Savtchouk and Vitaly Redko.
Over the years the National Ballet of Ukraine has toured round China, Poland, Bulgaria, Hungry, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Mongolia, India, Cuba, Austria, Great Britain, Canada, France, Belgium, the United States, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Greece, Venezuela, Ecuador, Colombia, Peru, Chile, Portugal, Spain and Italy. According to the New York Times “the brilliant performances of the ensemble cannot be overemphasized. And if you want to know the essence of dance itself, you must see the elegance and the rapidity of the technique shown by the dancers. And further on, the preciseness of  the spins, the rotations, the leaps and the piroettes of the men”. The Herald Tribune so describes the Virsky: “An ensemble of very beautiful women and men with incredible energy; all – both men and women – in beautiful costumes as fresh as spring”. From Le Figaro, titled A radiant dream: “The audience paid a standing ovation to the one hundred and fifty artists in the company, after saluting every dance with enthusiastic applause (…) Every spectator, even he whom does not appreciate folklore, was enchanted by this tonic and intelligent performance, because the Ballet of Ukraine is much more than a radiant dream”.
