Momix



Momix è un gruppo di ballerini-illusionisti, capeggiato dall'americano Moses Pendleton, conosciuto
in tutto il mondo per le sue opere di eccezionale bellezza ed inventiva. Fin dalla nascita ha acquisito grande fama per la sua capacità di evocare un mondo di immagini surreali usando corpo, costumi, attrezzi, luci e giochi d'ombra. Celebri sia gli spettacolari giochi di luce che le dinamiche fantasmagoriche che fanno apparire i corpi fluttuanti dei danzatori come parti di un universo dove gli elementi si scompongono e si ricompongono l'uno nell'altro.
Il nome del gruppo è quello di un assolo creato da Pendleton per le Olimpiadi Invernali di Lake Placid nel 1980. La compagnia ha spesso realizzato progetti speciali ed anche spettacoli televisivi, riscuotendo sempre un record assoluto di pubblico nei paesi dove ha rappresentato le sue creazioni in questi ultimi anni.
Oltre alle annuali apparizioni al Joyce di New York, la compagnia si esibisce in tutto il mondo effettuando tournées in Canadà, Spagna, Italia, Grecia, Francia, Inghilterra, Austria, Svizzera, Irlanda, Olanda, Portogallo, Argentina, Brasile, Russia, Australia e tutto l’Oriente. Momix nel 2005 ha compiuto 25 anni di vita, festeggiando con la creazione di Sun Flower Moon l’avvenimento. Giochi di luci ed ombre, effetti ottici e visivi, incontri tra realtà ed illusione: le leggi della fisica lasciano il posto ad emozioni ed incredulità, la perfezione dei movimenti e della coordinazione
fa spesso dubitare della concretezza e della reale esistenza di ciò che si vede
sul palcoscenico.Melodie ricercate che con l’ausilio di uno schermo sempre presente in scena,
che associa ad ogni pezzo un simbolo, uno scenario, un elemento, conducono la mente in luoghi surreali, onirici, ai confini della realtà.

Momix is a group of illusionist-dancers, headed by the American choreographer Moses Pendleton, known throughout the world for his work of exceptional beauty and inventive. Since its birth the ensemble has acheived great fame for its ability to evoke a world of surreal images using body, costumes, props,  light and shadow. The spectacular effects of light combined with phenomenal dynamics make the dancers apparently float in a universe in which the elements break up and re-merge into one another.
The name of the ensemble comes from a solo created by Pendleton for  the winter Olympic Games in Lake Placid in 1980. In recent years the company has often produced special projects and television shows, accomplishing record audience consent throughout.
As well as its yearly appearance at the Joyce in New York, the company stages worldwide performances, touring Canada, Spain, Italy, Greece, France, England, Austria, Switzerland, Ireland, Holland, Portugal, Argentina, Brazil, Russia, Australia and the Far East. In 2005 Momix celebrated its 25th anniversary with the creation of Sun Flower Moon. Playing with light and shadow, optical and visual effects, melding reality and illusion: the laws of physics give way to emotions and disbelief; the perfection of the body movements and the coordination of the figures often make one doubt the concreteness and the reality of what is shown on the stage. Fine melodies combined with images  projected on a scrim link symbols to every act, scene and element, leading the mind to surreal, dreamlike places at the boundaries of reality.
