Passion



Passion è lo spettacolo unanimemente considerato il capolavoro dei Momix. Creato nel 1992, fu rappresentato al Teatro Romano nell’agosto del 1994 e nel 2007 viene riproposto in una nuova edizione, che proprio da Verona inizia il suo tour. La musica di questo spettacolo firmato da Moses Pendleton è stata composta da Peter Gabriel per il film L’ultima tentazione di Cristo (The Last Temptation of Christ, 1988) di Martin Scorsese, ispirato dal romanzo L’ultima tentazione (1951) di Nikos Kazantzakis (1883-1957).
In Passion la musica di Peter Gabriel si abbina con lo spirito evocativo e surreale delle creazioni-figurazioni di Pendleton. La scenica è costituita principalmente da uno schermo su cui vengono proiettate delle immagini e dietro il quale si muovono, nel loro caratteristico stile atletico e sinuoso, i danzatori. L’inizio dello spettacolo vanta una delle scene più belle e suggestive, con le gambe e le braccia dei danzatori a formare una sorta di albero, simbolo della vita, che si fonde visivamente con l’albero proiettato sullo schermo. Le figure e le forme rappresentate dai danzatori sembrano essere tratte da una vasta cosmologia che fonde lo spiritualismo cristiano e quello orientale. Vi si riconoscono, tra gli altri, i simboli della religione cristiana (Cristo e Maria Maddalena) e di quella orientale (Buddha e Shiva).

Created in 1992, it was performed at the Roman Theatre in August 1994 and is presented again in 2007 in a new edition , which starts its tour right here in Verona. The music for this show signed by Moses Pendleton was composed by Peter Gabriel for the film The Last Temptations of Christ, 1988, directed by Martin Scorsese, inspired by Nikos Kazantzakis’s (1883-1957) novel The Last Temptation (1951).
In Passion, Peter Gabriel’s music is bound together with the arousing and surreal atmosphere of Pendleton’s  creations – configurations. The stage scenery mainly consists of a scrim on which videos are projected and behind which the dancers move in their typical smooth and athletic style. The score begins with one of the most beautiful and striking dance pieces, where the dancer’s legs and arms suggest some kind of tree, symbol of life, reflecting the tree projected on the scrim. The figures and forms represented by the dancers seem to come from a vast cosmology which blends both Christian and Oriental spirituality. The symbols of the Christian religion (Christ and Mary Magdalene) and those of the Oriental religion (Buddha and Shiva) are easily recognisable.
