Internationally known photographer Sandro
has been photographing people from around the world for over 25 years.
Born in 1958 in the Chicago suburb of Elgin, Sandro was raised in an
Italian/American family. Illinois. He became interested in photography
at the age of 16 upon seeing the works of Irving Penn, and since then
has devoted his time and passion to making expressive images.
Sandro’s work has been featured in The New Yorker, Time, Newsweek, Forbes, Details, stern, and ESPN Magazine. He has exhibited in Munich, Germany; Daytona Beach, Florida; and at the Museum of Contemporary Photography in Chicago, Illinois. In September 2001, Sandro photographed 90 of Cuba’s top athletes, including many Olympic champions, and the National Cuban Ballet. The resulting work will be shown in an exposition at Cuba's Olympic Stadium, with a travelling exhibit also in production. A book of the images will be published by the MIT Press. Sandro has two books in print. One is a collaboration with Michael Jordan entitled I can’t accept not trying. More recent is a book of biker portraits, American Bikers by Sandro, published by Schirmer Mosel Verlag. Three additional books are forthcoming. The first, Blood Brothers, documents the sport of boxing around the world. The second is on the legendary bullfighter, Matador Joselito of Spain. The final book is an exploration of the human body shot through plexiglass. Sandro D. Miller lives in Chicago with his partner, Liz Baugher, and his children, Natalia and Nathan Miller. |
