For the first time in Italy the world-renowned Chicago photographer, Sandro Miller, is showing at the Scavi Scaligeri in Verona a vast collection of his creations, from the images that have made him famous (American bikers and Cuban national athletes) to the splendid "nudes on Plexiglas" studies, an extremely personal investigation of the human body, using a distorting lens. One section will be devoted to portraits (from Michael Jackson to Cassius Clay to the Reverend Jackson) that constitute one of the themes closest to his expressive sensitivity.

The exhibition traces Miller’s twenty-year long career in around 160 images, and this ample retrospective of his artistic development will be organised personally by him.

Knock Out

This series of images, to be published by the Paper Mirror Press under the title Blood Brothers, is dedicated to boxing, both amateur and professional, and its most celebrated champions.

American Bikers

His most famous images portraying American Bikers are displayed in this section, and have also been collected in a book published by Schirmer Mosel Verlag in 1998.

Cuba

In September 2001, Sandro was the first photographer ever to be invited to shoot a photographic report on the most celebrated Cuban athletes, including many Olympic champions. On that occasion he also shot a report on the Cuban National Ballet shortly before its tour in the United States. The report on the Cuban athletes will be published by the famous MIT Press publishing house.

People (portraits)

Sandro is also celebrated for his ability in capturing the personality of his subjects. In this section many of his portraits can be admired, including those of Michael Jackson, Muhammed Ali, John Lee Hooker, the Reverend Jesse Jackson, John Malkovich and Studs Terkel.

Nudes

This section is divided into four nuclei of images ((On glass, Naked Truth, Black and White Distressed Nudes, and Distressed Nudes in colour), that include the splendid studies of "nudes on Plexiglas", an extremely personalised investigation of the human body, using a distorting lens, and that will be collected in the book Under Pressure.

The Scaliger Archaeological Site

The site is located under the courtyard in front of the municipal courts, between Piazza Dante and Piazza Viviani (the central Post Office), near Piazza delle Erbe and the Lamberti Tower. There are two entrances to the site, one in the centre of the courtyard, where the ticket office is also located, and another near Piazza Viviani, leading onto the archaeological and exposition itinerary. From Porta Nuova railway station, take the n° 72 or 73 bus from aisle F, getting off in Via Stella at the junction with Via Cappello (route on foot: Via Cappello - Piazza delle Erbe - Piazza Dante or Piazza Viviani, 5 minutes).

By car, leave the motorway at the Verona Sud exit. Then follow directions for the town centre to reach the car park in Piazza Cittadella, near Piazza Bra (route on foot: Via Mazzini - Piazza delle Erbe – Piazza Dante or Piazza Viviani, 10 minutes).
