Corbis and the Bettmann Archive Helping Non-Profit Associations.
A Million-Euro story.

The Bettmann Archive, with its 11.5 million images, is one of the world’s largest and oldest collections of photographs. Corbis purchased the collection in 1995.  Its many images of great historic icons and snapshots of everyday life are often used in communications – from advertising campaigns to cereal boxes, to book jackets and pure and simple publishing uses. Recently, Corbis has also set up a programme to donate images for up to a million euros in support of non-profit organisations in Italy and the rest of the world.  In fact, these organisations do not have sufficient funds for suitable advertising or fund-raising campaigns, and free access to one of the world’s largest photographic archives can therefore be of precious assistance.  Thus, over the last year, Corbis has donated more than a million euros in copyright fees for the use of images from the Bettmann Archive and this campaign has also helped many Italian NGOs: "it is right to open up this twentieth-century treasure trove to help non-profit associations in their battles for important social issues”.

The initiative continues this year and for more information about eligibility or to find out the guidelines for the programme, visit the web sites of Corbis www.corbis.com or Contrasto www.contrasto.it
