The proposal for the city of Verona to join the Biophilic Cities Network, an international network focused on increasing the connection between people and nature in cities, has been approved, to which numerous cities have joined and have committed themselves to maximizing the presence and opportunities to connect their citizens with all forms of nature both direct and indirect.
What does Biophilia mean? | The Biophilic Cities Network
Founder and Executive Director of Biophilic Cities, Timothy Beatley said:
“We are excited to have Verona in the Biophilic Cities Network. This storied city, two-thousand years old, shows how deep commitments to history, art and culture can go hand in hand with restoring our bonds with the natural world. From its gardens, vineyards and piazzas, Verona is a place that celebrates the sensory delights of a walkable city while setting ambitious goals to plant more trees and grow even more nature."
The indicators identified that make Verona a Biophilic City are:
Natural context, characteristics and biophilic infrastructures.
- Human health and well-being through biophilic connections.
- Involvement, participation, biophilic activities and knowledge.
- Biophilic institutions, planning and governance.
➡️ Based on these indicators, the Municipality, supported by a rich network of Partners, is committed to creating and improving an active, participatory and conscious civil environment, in order to the city can maintain its status as a Biophilic City over time.
